A Witness from Parishioner Christine Woodward

I think back to my days of Sunday School, and my memories consist of reading a Bible passage and then discussing it, with our teacher attempting to extract from the class some sort of insightful commentary… There was no “wondering” going on back then, but lots of just trying to understand. There was no “play”: no circles, no water table, no desert box, no coloring, no painting, no clay, no sewing, no wooden ark filled with little wooden animals. There were certainly no questions at dinner about what we learned in Sunday School. It is so different with my two children. Both have been attending Godly Play since each was three years old. I get asked all sorts of questions such as, “What does God look like?” and “Why does God let bad things happen?” Godly Play teaches us that there are no right or wrong answers. I just love being able to answer these really tough questions with “I wonder.” I too wonder about these exact same questions and there is something so beautiful about wondering together with my children.
