For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.” (Matthew 25: 35-36)

The Outreach Committee, guided by the Gospel’s message of giving,  focuses on the needs of the underserved in both the local and wider community, while being careful stewards of the funds so generously allocated to us by our parishioners.

In a world with so much need, St. Stephen’s empowers us to do the work that God is calling us to do.  By doing this faithfully, we also build stronger bonds within our own St. Stephen’s community– working together in fellowship within our various ministries– whether cooking for Father Bill’s in Quincy, collecting Halloween costumes for Interfaith Social Services, preparing holiday meal baskets for our local food pantry, or being part of our prison ministry team.

Another focus of our Outreach efforts is to continually look for opportunities to join with the South Shore Deanery and other churches in the Diocese in additional initiatives, which then concentrates our efforts and provides “strength in numbers.”   St. Stephen’s is a partner parish with St. Stephen’s Boston’s Youth Programs (http://www.ssypboston.org/ )

IMG_4309which provides year-round academic enrichment programs for underserved children from kindergarten through senior high and beyond.  We are also partners with our Deanery’s Mission Hub initiative, working to provide housing and services for older teens who have “aged out” of the foster care program.

Moving forward, we will continue to look for opportunities to “serve the least of these” by tending to the needs of the disadvantaged.  Please join us!  We depend on the willingness and energies of each and every member of the St. Stephens family, young and old, be they in prayer, time, talent or treasure, for “Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.” (1 Corinthians 12: 7). Together we can make it happen!

OUTREACH Meetings are held every 4th Sunday of the month in the Bartow room after coffee hour from about 11:30 am until noon.
