Over the summer, the Children’s Choir Committee has been meeting to formulate a vision for developing a successful Music Program for the children and youth of St. Stephen’s Parish. Our work has focused on examining past programs, formulating a mission statement, and creating a plan to move our program forward.
Our meetings have been a success, and we are excited to announce that we will form a Children and Youth Choir this Fall at St. Stephen’s Church. Rehearsals will be held in the Choir Room starting on Thursday, September 25 at 4:00 for children in grades K – 2, and at 5:00 for children and youth in grades 3 – 12. Registration materials and other information will be available at the Ice Cream Social on September 7, and at the Parish Picnic on September 14.
Singing in a Children’s Choir gives the youngest members of our parish a gift that keeps on giving. Singing helps us connect with our faith, and with a community of singers that forms strong bonds both with each other and with the church. The objectives of our Children’s Choir include teaching sound musical skills including note and rhythm skills and singing techniques while singing music in a variety of musical styles, but also include developing leadership skills through training children to lead our congregation in our community worship services. These are skills that pay huge lifetime dividends, and help our children find their place in our world. And singing in a Children’s Choir is fun!
